Margaret
Brookhart Memorial Scholarship Fund

Margaret McFarlane Brookhart was born in the gold mining town of Central
City, Colorado, where her family built and owned the famous Central City
Opera House. Margaret’s lifelong interest in western traditions
had its start when, as a young girl, she played the piano on the stage
of Colorado’s most famous opera house.
When she married Kenneth Brookhart, who served as the president of the
Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo and was one of the founders of the Pikes Peak
Range Riders, her interest and involvement in western heritage continued. For
many years, Margaret hosted the annual luncheon for former Girls of the
West and their aides, and was an active member of the rodeo auxiliary
Cowhand and Cowbells. She never missed the Pikes Peak Range Rider Street
Breakfast, the rodeo parade, or a performance of the Pikes Peak or Bust
Rodeo.
It is only fitting that this scholarship be created in the
memory of Margaret Brookhart to reward those young students who have exhibited
an interest in the American West by taking part in those activities which
represent the West.
